Horizontal CNC machining center SIGMA Horizon series

The SIGMA Horizon series comprises three horizontal CNC machining centers —SMH-500, SMH-630, and SMH-800— designed for high-speed, high-efficiency machining of precision molds and high-volume production parts. The horizontal spindle orientation, combined with the standard two-pallet rotary APC and a B-axis with 0.001° indexing resolution, enables multi-face machining in a single clamping, with applications across automotive, aerospace, energy, and mold manufacturing industries.

The machine structure features a one-piece T-shaped base with 3-layer box-type casting and rib reinforcement, engineered for maximum rigidity under heavy cutting loads. Roller-type linear guides on all three axes provide high stiffness with low friction. The X-axis high/low rail design reduces column inertia and improves structural stability during machining operations.

Linear travels range from 762 to 1,300 mm on X, 710 to 1,020 mm on Y, and 800 to 1,100 mm on Z. Pallet tables range from 500×500 to 800×800 mm —with an optional 1,000×1,000 mm configuration on the SMH-800— supporting maximum loads of up to 2,000 kg. The rotary APC includes 2 pallets as standard on all models. Spindle speed reaches 10,000 rpm via direct drive (DDS) on the SMH-500 and SMH-630; the SMH-800 uses a belt-and-gearbox transmission suited to high-torque heavy-duty cutting at speeds up to 6,000 rpm. Spindle power ranges from 15/25 to 22/35 kW. Standard rapid traverse is 42–48 m/min, with an optional 60 m/min on the SMH-500 and SMH-630. The ATC accommodates 40 to 60 tools with No. 40 or No. 50 taper tool holders.

The Horizon series is suited to manufacturing plants and workshops producing complex prismatic parts —engine blocks, cylinder heads, transmission housings, and aerospace structural components— in medium to high volumes, where single-setup multi-face machining and fast pallet change cycles are key drivers of process efficiency.
